While the band’s name may suggest a light and whimsical approach to their music making, that is far from the whole story – having just experienced the Playdate Trio in an all acoustic concert venue recently. Yes these musicians clearly are having an absolute ball playing together and their fun and their playful stage presence is disarming, infectious and charming. But then they pick up their instruments, tune up and start in ... and within seconds you find yourself in one of those old iconic “Maxell tape” commercials: holding onto your chair while having your hair blown back as you take in the veritable tsunami of music sweeping over you and drenching your ears and filling your heart. 

We all know when certain musicians come together and create something special called chemistry. The sum is greater than the parts. But then there are those very rare ensembles that rise to even higher level. It’s more than chemistry.

It’s downright alchemy. Magic.

And not just one moment or another but in every note and phrase played consistently from start to finish, note after note, phrase after phrase, tune after tune. There’s no luck involved or a “searching” or groping to find each other. They are already “there." The match is lit and the combustion happens  — every time: nuanced, breathtaking, and powerful, unfolding with remarkable depth and subtlety. Every note feels intentional, and together they create something that transcends technical excellence—
